How Long Glass Work Takes

Typical timelines below. Weather, glass availability and sensors can move them.

How long does windshield chip repair take?

About 20 to 30 minutes for a single chip.

The resin is injected, cured and polished while you wait. You can drive immediately afterward. Fixing a chip early is the cheapest glass decision you will ever make, because once it runs, the whole windshield goes.

  • 20 to 30 minutes
  • Drive away immediately
  • Prevents the crack from spreading

How long before I can drive after a windshield replacement?

Plan on about one hour of safe drive-away time with the urethane we use.

The install itself typically runs one to two hours. After that the adhesive needs to reach the strength required to hold the glass in a crash. Leave a window cracked for the first day, skip the automatic car wash for 48 hours, and avoid slamming doors while it sets.

  • About 1 hour safe drive-away
  • 48 hours before a car wash
  • Crack a window the first day

How fast can you get to a broken storefront or a smashed car window?

Same day whenever the glass is in stock, and emergency board-up the same day when it is not.

Call the nearest shop, Thatcher or Holbrook. For after-hours break-ins we secure the opening first and install the permanent glass on the next business day.

  • Same-day when glass is in stock
  • Emergency board-up available
